The Syosset School District’s Nutrition Advisory Committee will meet on Jan. 7 at 9:30 a.m. in the Board of Education Conference Room at South Woods Middle School.

The committee includes student, parent, teacher, administrator and school community members who promote healthy eating, nutrition awareness, and the physical activity levels of students.

A nutrition table (pictured) posted in the cafeterias of all secondary schools was one of the committee's past projects.

Until PTA will still offer "healthy snacks" in the form of oreo cookies or potato chips or fatty ice creams... Until PTA lunches will include pasta(not whole wheat) and fried(yes, fried!) chicken nuggets and processed cream cheese on bagels....what are we talking about? Parents mind need to be changed. The only way to do so is to mandate wholewheat pasta and pizza, try switching vendors at school to offer more healthy choices. Look no further other LI school district, for example North Shore SD. They even send letters to parents asking them to introduce quinoa to kids since they are serving it at school.

Stop with the "mandating". Is this committee even necessary? Schools are not parents.
