“The entire school district is saddened and expresses its deepest condolences," reacted school officials Tuesday. Schools are not in session, owing to spring break.

Police have not yet confirmed why Lee was on the tracks at the time of the accident. As the community waits for more information, those who knew Lee are taking the time to reflect on his life and stand behind Lee's family.

"Another Syosset High School student taken too soon...RIP John," tweeted DJ Watts Tuesday.

"I just pray that there was a good meaning behind it, that in a way g-d was looking out for him," said Seymour.

"...he had an exceptional capacity for humor, seemingly able to make others laugh & smile with ease," wrote Syosset alum Josh Lafazan. "Please keep his family in your thoughts & prayers during this challenging time."

A funeral date has not yet been reported.
