Voter's Guide: Syosset School Budget, Board Election

Syosset School District residents will vote on the district’s $213 million proposed budget for the 2014-15 school year on Tuesday.

The proposal calls for a 1.76 percent increase in spending over the current year and carries a 1.33 percent percent tax levy increase, which is within the state's tax cap.

School officials say the fiscal plan allows for continuation of the district’s educational and related programs.

Four candidates are officially running for three school board seats. Incumbents Michael Cohen and April M. Neuendorf  are on the ballot as are Laura Schlesinger and Bill Weiner.

Voting will be held 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at Syosset High School, H.B. Thompson Middle School and Robbins Lane Elementary School.

This will pass no matter what. We are always taxed higher than the percentage. It is politics folks. Unfortunately, many of us do not and have never had kids. These teachers just keep giving themselves bonuses. I know many on the board of this school district and others. That's the way it is. The money never goes to helping the kids.

Teacher - Bonus. Interesting to see those two words in the same sentence. Clearly you know nothing about teaching or teachers. If you've never had kids, how do you know what is going to help the kids. Don't spew rhetoric that you've been brainwashed to believe unless you know what you're talking about.

So Marlene, you think it's okay for a teacher to be a pedophile and sit in a rubber room while we pay for their salary when they should be in jail. You speak of me spewing rhetoric. I am not brainwashed as you are and you must be a teacher. You teach common core, not the constitution of the United States. You do not teach the kids about the history of the US nor about the presidents. Not having children does not make me ignorant. Take your head out of the sand now. It's a political arena. Don't waste your time responding, I don't pay attention to morons and idiots.
