Boys Volleyball Loss Doesn't Kill Playoff Prospects
A win on Monday will still earn Braves a seed in top half of draw.
Friday's 3-1 loss to Long Beach may have been frustrating for Syosset's boys volleyball team, but it didn't necessarily put a major crimp in the Braves' playoff hopes.
A win on Monday against Massapequa or a loss coupled with a Long Beach win would net the Braves a No. 5 seed in the upcoming 12-seed tournament.
All four games of the match played at Long Beach High School were close. Syosset fell into an early hole, dropping the first game 25-22. The score was tied nine times in the opening game. Long Beach edged the Braves 5-4 in break points.

Syosset won the second game 25-21. The Braves showed plenty of athleticism, with Brett Burian repeatedly hitting the deck to save Long Beach shots from dropping for points.
After a 25-19 loss in the third game, Syosset needed to win the fourth to stay alive. With the score tied at 19, Long Beach rattled off three consecutive points. After a timeout, Syosset cut the lead to 22-21. But Long Beach finally proved to be too much, scoring three of the final four points to end the match.
