Sunday: Giants, Jets Set to Open

A reader with Syosset connections says forget New Jersey's teams, he is rooting for Buffalo ... New York.

For New York Jets fans, hope springs eternal - or at least until 1 p.m. Sunday, when Gang Green starts the 2013 season against Tampa Bay.

On Facebook, fans are resigned to another season of lessons in life, and losing.

"I think I am a Jet fan because I wanted to know what losing feels like," writes Christopher Carini on our Wantagh-Seaford Facebook page. "Being a Yankee fan, we only experience this in small doses. A Jets fan knows most seasons are hopeless. I will enjoy watching a quarterback besides Sanchez."

Good thing Chris isn't worried about Matt Harvey and the rest of the Mets. He would be inconsolable.

Dave DelVecchio was more direct on Facebook, writing simply that he likes the "Jets, because I like misery."

Constance Roland, on the other hand, saves her sports disappointment for the Mets. She said she's a Giants fan and went as far as to say her husband had to be a Giants fan too.

"I am what my father raised me to be: a Giants fan," she wrote. "I was diligent and found a husband who shares my Mets and Giants cultural background. It's easier to raise children that way. Some things are non-negotiable. We are a blended family in other ways."

Over on the Massapequa Patch Facebook page, Michael Mcphillips wasn't looking to make friends with any New York football fans, writing "Cowboys all the way."

Dave Marzola, who went to Syosset High School, went in the other direction, pointing out that New York only has one real team, and it plays in Buffalo.

Dave: Go Bills.
