Syosset Football Beats Uniondale 20-14 in OT

Records: Syosset 1-0 (1-0) Uniondale 0-1 (0-1).

The Hero: Senior wide receiver James Cohan caught a 23-yard pass from quarterback Alex Contino in overtime to give the Braves the win.

Turning Point: A false start penalty pushed Uniondale back five yards on third down, bogging down an overtime drive. They went for a 33-yard field goal, which was blocked by Syosset's Tommy Anderson. The Braves capitalized with two strong runs from tailback Joe Morris, followed by Cohan's winning catch.

Who's Next: Syosset travels to Oceanside on Sept. 16.

The Bottom Line: Stellar defensive play led by All-County junior Evan Kappatos kept Uniondale from moving the ball consistently.
