Syosset Boys Lax Falls to 1-3 in Conference

Braves lose 8-2 to Massapequa before heading on road trip.

Between the third and fourth quarters versus Massapequa Wednesday, Syosset boys lacrosse coach John Calabria was channeling his inner Norman Dale.

The lead character in Hoosiers wanted four passes before a shot, and Calabria wanted 45 seconds. The message was to get back to the basics and try to find some chemistry regardless of the scoreboard. Sometimes that's all you can do when you're struggling.

"At some point that became a practice for us," said Calabria after the Braves dropped an 8-2 road decision to Massapequa to fall to 1-3 in conference play. "We had tried to get back into it [after trailing 7-1 at halftime], but Massapequa's a good team that took us out of our game. We were just trying to get something positive going at the end."

Six different Massapequa players combined for the seven first-half goals, with Nick Bruno providing the only tally for Syosset. Alirio Demeireles scored for the Braves in the second half.

This is Syosset's second consecutive loss via the same score, matching last week's defeat versus Farmingdale. The Braves now go on the road to Baltimore this weekend for an exhibition match and to watch the ACC Tournament.
