“The key has been staying focused,” Head coach Brett Waxer said. “The kids have been stepping it up. We want to keep this momentum going. That’s our big thing right now.”

Most successful seasons have a game that brings a team together. Waxer believes could be a major turning point for the Braves.

“We walked off and we were frustrated,” Waxer recalled. “We’ve been battling a lot this season with some injuries and off-the-field issues. We thought we had a win and we didn’t stay focused for the full 80 minutes. I think, at that point, the guys understood (the importance of) attention to detail in everything we do. That has sparked us.”

Eric Bold has been a major reason why the Braves have played so well over the last month. The Binghamton commit had two goals in Thursday’s win.

“He’s been a nice addition up top,” Waxer said. “We moved him up top and he’s really taken on a sense of confidence. It’s nice to be able to have him (both) on and off the ball. People have to be aware of him.”

Syosset will look for their seventh straight win on at 4:30 p.m.

Plainview JFK Football Drops to 1-4 After 25-14 Loss to Hempstead

With 7:32 left in the fourth quarter, Plainview JFK looked poised to draw to within a game of the .500 mark. Brent Epler has just kicked a go ahead extra point, giving the Hawks a one point lead on winless Hempstead at Plainview JFK High School.

But after a squib kick gone wrong gave Hempstead a short field, the Hawks defense failed to make that one final stop that they would need to put the game on ice. Quarterback Manny Guzman's two yard scramble put Hempstead on top for good.

A Plainview JFK turnover with 1:24 left in the game sealed the victory for the visitors.

Turnovers have been a major story for the Hawks this season. In the last two games alone, Plainview JFK has fumbled nine times and thrown two interceptions.

“I don’t know if it’s us trying to fight for the extra yards or if it’s the fact that we’re not with our starting quarterback right now, but we’re putting the ball on the ground way too much,” Plainview coach Chris Rogler said. “We’re putting the ball more in our opponents hands than our hands."

Plainview will try and get back into the to the win column when they travel to Massapequa on October 15 at 2 p.m.
