Matt Burrei's goal with three minutes left in the game salvaged a 2-2 tie for the Syosset boys soccer team against Farmingdale at home Tuesday afternoon.
Records: Syosset (1-0-4, 1-0-5), Farmingdale (1-0-3, 2-0-5)
The Hero: Burrei. Not only did he score the tying goal, but he also set up Steven Davies' goal to give the Braves a 1-0 lead in the first half.
The Turning Point: Fabricio Bustillo's goal tied things up for Farmingdale near the end of the first half, and Fernando Cortez' goal off a free kick with eight minutes left gave the Dalers the lead. But the Braves didn't give up, and mustered a push that led to Burrei's goal.
The Quote: "Our improvements are very simple. We need to get a win," said Syosset coach Brett Waxer, whose team has ended up with ties in five of the season's first six games. "They played with a lot of effort; we just need to execute a little better on offense."
The Bottom Line: Despite not scoring as much as they'd like, the team showed a lot of potential. Notable was fullback Ross Kennedy, who defended his area well while also consistently pushing the ball up the left side.
Key Stat: Josh Haberman had three saves for the Braves.
Who's Next: Syosset will host Uniondale Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The teams tied on Uniondale's home turf earlier in the season.
