Syosset Boys Volleyball Falls to East Meadow

Braves fall to 4-5 in conference.

It looked like Syosset's boys volleyball team would be able to dig itself out of a hole after losing the first game to East Meadow on Tuesday afternoon. Their stellar play in the second game gave hope to the team and the fans who were cheering them on. Unfortunately they stumbled in the next two games, losing 26-24 and 25-21 to lose the best-of-five series 3-1 and fall to 4-5 in conference play.

"Our offense is struggling," said Syosset head coach Todd Donaghy. "We are making too many unforced errors and we don't have a go-to player we can look to for that offensive spark." He said that offensive aggressiveness would be the main focus for this Friday's home game against Calhoun (4:45 p.m.).

The score was tied 8-8 in the third game when East Meadow started to pull away. The score eventually ballooned to 17-12 when Coach Donaghy called a timeout.

"At that point we really needed to regroup and get our focus back," Donaghy said.

The score was 21-16 when Syosset started to turn it up a notch. Team captain and outside hitter Jake Weinreb and his brother, setter Zack, combined on some nice shots to get the score to 24-22. Right side hitter Alex Leiss and setter Ross Ingber also got into the act. The score eventually was tied at 24, but East Meadow got the next point on a Syosset error. At 25-24 the longest point of the match was played, with Syosset eventually hitting it long to lose the pivotal game.
