Syosset Girls Volleyball Drops Opener at Roslyn

Record: Syosset 0-1 (0-0), Roslyn 1-0 (0-0) 

Hero: Rebekah Sugarman. Despite the three-game loss, Sugarman was all over the floor Tuesday with key kills and outstanding blocks at the net. She was instrumental in starting a rally midway through the second game.  

The Turning Point: After clawing back from two separate 10-point deficits in the second game, Syosset missed a chance to tie the match by allowing Roslyn to force a 24-24 break point. The Braves lost the game two points later, 26-24, and were left staring at a 2-0 deficit.  

Next Game: Wednesday at Oceanside, 6:30 p.m., in conference opener.   

Bottom Line: The Braves had trouble climbing out of early holes. While they showed tremendous resolve forcing close finishes, they couldn’t find those one or two points to get them over the top. Syosset held a 13-9 lead midway through the third game, but lost nine of the next 10 points and never recovered.
