Syosset Girls Volleyball Season Ends

The long journey that was the 2010 season is over for the Braves girls volleyball team after getting swept by MacArthur on Tuesday in the first round of the Nassau Class AA playoffs. After a close first set, Syosset let errors turn the tide in a 21-25, 13-25, 16-25 loss which left the Braves 11-6 at season's end.

Hero: Melissa Lam – Lam took control of a team filled with a diverse volleyball back round. Some of her teammates were making a return to volleyball after a season or two away from the game. Her experience and leadership on the court was evident in every game her team played. A senior, Lam took the roll of co – captain to heart. One of the first things on the Braves list for 2011 will be to find a player that can fill Lam's roll.

Turning Point: Syosset fell behind early in the second. Service errors and poor play found the girls in a hole that they weren't able to come out of. So many times this season, the Braves found a rally in the middle of sets - that rally never came against MacArthur.

Quotable: "There was a lot of work to be done," said Braves coach Kathy Seitz when reflecting on the 2010 season. "In two months, we came a long way. We fought hard in the end, but we lost."

Bottom Line: Although it may sting now, Syosset should look back on this season fondly. They showed a lot of fight throughout the season. While they may not have always been the most talented team on the floor, they didn't bow down to anyone. Two close losses to Herricks, a girls volleyball powerhouse, showed this. But, in the end, that fight that was shown so many times couldn't be mustered.

Key Stat: Syosset finished the year 6-4 on the road.
