Syosset Softball Bows Out in Playoffs

Lady Braves lose 6-0.

Syosset's girls softball team came up against a buzz saw in the form of No. 1 seed East Meadow in second-round playoff action Wednesday. The Lady Braves' season ended with a 6-0 loss.

Syosset's best chance to get on the board came in the top of the fifth. Trailing 3-0, catcher Jaime Warfield singled and was replaced on base by speedy Rose Bloomberg. With second baseman Molly Goldfarb batting Bloomberg attempted to steal second. She had a good lead but was not able to beat the ball and was tagged out. The crowd of Syosset supporters groaned, sensing that any comeback hopes were dashed. Goldfarb was called out on strikes, and the next batter, Nicole Tang, ended the inning by popping up to the infield.

The East Meadow batters were all about power, sending fly balls deep early and often. Danielle Cutili homered to start off the second inning, and an inside-the-park home run followed by a double in the bottom of the fifth brought the score to 6-0. Pitcher Paula Janowski was replaced by Nivea Suresh.
