Syosset Sports Roundup

It took a fifth and final game, but Syosset beat Herricks at home in volleyball action Wednesday.

Early mistakes cost Syosset in the first game and they were not able to overtake Herricks, who prevailed 25-23. Syosset got off to a good start in the second game with good net play from Alex Leiss, and Jake and Zach Weinreb. They pulled ahead of Herricks 17-6 and never relinquished the lead. They ended up winning the game 25-17 to tie the score.

The third game was similar to the second, with Syosset taking a quick 16-6 lead and never looking back. Outside hitter Nick Walsh finished well at net, and the Weinrebs had multiple kills on top of the Herricks players. The final score was 25-13 and Syosset appeared to be on cruise control.

The fourth game resembled the first with Syosset making multiple mistakes and losing 25-16.

But in the finale Syosset passed well, set up good shots and had Herricks running all over the floor. With the score 19-10 in Syossets favor it was all but over. With captain Jake Weinreb screaming, "Don't lose your focus," the Braves went on to win 25-14.

Syosset Wins in Boys Tennis

Syosset's boys tennis team defeated Schreiber 6-1 Tuesday. The Braves won all the matches in singles play and dropped only one doubles match.

Third doubles: Matt Teller/Harris Weber (Syosset) def. Michael Seiden/Jared Alper (Schreiber) – 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Fourth doubles: Shaan Shivdasani/Krishin Shivdasani (Schreiber) def. Kyle Nadelman/Alex Mandel (Syosset) – 2-6, 6-2, 10-6
