Syosset Sting Wins Seventh Consecutive State Open Cup

The girls soccer team defeated Albertson Gold Premier '92 Fury, 2-1, on Sunday June 5.

The Syosset Sting girls soccer team was in seventh heaven on Sunday, June 5 in LaGrange, New York as they won the State Open Cup for a seventh consecutive year.

Syosset captured the Girls-Under-18 State Open Cup title, defeating Albertson Gold Premier ‘92 Fury, 2-1, their third consecutive State final win over the same Albertson team.

The two-time regional champions lost to the So Cal Dodge Blues of California, 1-0, inTo make it back to the Nationals, Syosset will again represent the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association and needs to win the Region 1 championships from July 1 to 5 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Syosset’s goals were scored by Liana Cornacchio and Amy Moran. Both Syosset and Albertson are Long Island Junior Soccer League teams that play in the Region 1 Premier League.

“We are a very deep team and are even deeper than we were last year,” Syosset coach Joe Agiato said. “We also have two great goalkeepers in Katie Marcy and Briana Cotler.”

With 120,000 youth soccer players and more than 25,000 volunteers, the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 12 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81.

ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered - from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children.
