Syosset Youth Lacrosse Report

The teams continue to win.

3rd Grade Boys Lacrosse

The 3rd grade boys lacrosse team improved their record to 2-0 with an impressive 6-2 win over Northport.  The Braves were led by Christian Lyons with four goals and one assist, Jack Rooney's one goal and three assists and Jack Monfort's one goal and one assist.  Jason Yacavone and Dylan Hein split time in the goal and did a great job.  Matt Losquadro and Nick Hrelja played great on attack, with Nick narrowly missing a goal when he hit a pipe in the second quarter.  The midfield of Nick Carchietta, Andrew Bonapace, Michael Anastasio, Erica Haas, Charlie Zandieh, Drew Cohen and Troy Douglas all played outstanding scooping up numerous groundballs and running them down the field.  Andrew Giovinco had another outstanding week at the faceoff X, winning all five of his faceoffs.  The defense of Ryan Lebson, Matt Majoy, Joseph Cawley, Jacob Katz, James Galvin and Daniel Shapiro shut down the Northport attack, limiting them to a few opportunities.  Coaches Jimmy Lyons, Chris Hein and Eric Majoy were very pleased with the effort of the boys.

3rd and 4th Grade Girls Lacrosse

The girls 3rd/4th grade Syosset lacrosse team had a great game on Sunday, April 18. They played an away game at Baldwin. Although they were on Baldwin's turf they worked hard to keep their lead and won with a final score of 8-6.  The game was very exciting and the girls never slowed down.  Sofia Afkham scored the first four goals of the game.  Those goals were quickly followed by Nicole Rizzo with two more goals to take a big lead of 6-2.  Both Rebecca Korn and Jessica Levy played an outstanding game on Sunday helping to keep the team in a winning position.  Barri Levitt played goalie and had some great saves. In the second half Paulina Levitan stepped in as goalie and did a great job. Another two goals were scored by Melissa Esswin with an assist from Sara Krotz to win the game. Great job to all the girls.

4th Grade Red Boys Lacrosse
The 4th grade Red boys lacrosse team won its second game of the year Saturday over Jericho, 7-2.  The boys raced to a 6-0 halftime lead behind their "Stonewall" defense anchored by shutout goalie Tyler Parlo and defensemen JT Roselle's five takeaways, Austin Maccarone's two takeaways and Matthew Lunnenberg's two takeaways.  Tommy Markou preserved the win in goal in the second half, making a number of point-blank saves in only his second game, sharing the goaltending duties. Speedster Chris Daugherty played a solid all-around game with two goals, two assists and six face-off wins.  The first-half scoring outburst was led by standout attackmen Joseph Schindel (one goal), Dylan Gefter (one goal, one assist) and Brian Dillon (one assist).  The middies were led by the always-steady play of JP Lanning, who spearheaded the way for Jake Needleman (one goal, two assists) and Griffen Burke (one goal, one assist). Griffen also provided strong contributions on both the man-up and man-down teams.  Dominic Speranza played his usual intimidating game on both ends of the field and helped Syosset to a resounding 20-8 lead in ground balls.  Solid efforts by Curtis Torti and newcomer Trevor Friedrich rounded things out nicely.

4th Grade Black Boys Lacrosse

The 4th grade Black boys lacrosse team improved their record to 2-0 with a hard-fought win over lacrosse power Manhasset.  The Braves were led by Liam Kalbacher's four goals.  Thomas Goldrick, Sal Crescimani, Andrew Harris and Danny Ochs also scored goals. Sean Anderson was once again outstanding in goal and Stephen Conte, Shawn Connell, Chris Belmonte, Dylan Sapienza, Paulie Cavesano, John Babino, John Rochford, Brandon Brosnahan, Teddy Hanakis, Tommy Bruefach, Justin Cohen, Dean Marx and Jake Mullin all played well in the win. The Braves have a home game at Syosset-Woodbury Park this Sunday at 9 a.m. and hope you come out and support them.

 4th Grade Girls Lacrosse

The 4th grade girls lacrosse team had a busy weekend.  On Saturday, April 17th the 3rd and 4th grade teams joined forces and participated in the Lacrosse Jamboree at Walt Whitman High School.  They played the Walt Whitman team and won 7-3.  Reilly Seibert scored the first goal of the game and had another one early on. Sophie Levinson had a goal with an assist by Paulina Levitan. Taylyn Stadler scored the remaining four for the Braves. Elizabeth Hooey played an awesome first half as goalie and Meghan Balos tended the goal in the second half with both making many saves.  The weekend continued for the 4th grade girls team at Half Hollow Hills High School on Sunday, April 18 where they defeated the home team 7-4.  Danielle Pitta was unstoppable and had five of the goals. Taylyn Stadler had the other two. Amanda Alejo was goalie the entire game and had an amazing game against a tough team with nine saves. Rachel Farijam, Elizabeth Hooey and Samantha Landsman played outstanding defense. 

5th Grade Boys Lacrosse
Syosset 5th grade boys visited Garden City for their second game of the season.  After a close loss to Floral Park last week the boys came ready to turn things around.  Syosset started very strong leading 4-1 at the end of the first half with a combination of goals from Griffin Halpern, Matthew Sobel, and Jack Lukacovic. Ground ball play was handled well by Matt Farrell and Will Sanchez.  The second half opened with goals contributed by Jared Goldberg and Matthew Korn. Thomas Middendorf did an excellent job feeding his cutting teammates, earning several assists.  As the game played on Garden City was pulling close and all the players had to pull together. Dave Moyett, Greg Newman, Matt Benus, Matt Frank, Dylan Schloss and Chris Moon kept the midfield running strong. Siddharth Menon, Ben Prevor, David Griffin and Cameron Zandieh maintained the momentum of the attack. Will Sanchez and Dylan Diaz led their defense, with Michael Sherman, Justin Corallo, Justin Andersen, Riley Frain, Andrew Kravitz, Manny Hur, Jimmy Sheehy, and Connor Ranges holding the Garden City offense back the best they could. Jack Moore kept an outstanding goal with 14 saves.  The horn went off and despite all efforts, the game ended in an 8-8 tie.
