Syosset Youth Lacrosse Report

The third grade boys team remains undefeated.

3rd Grade Boys Lacrosse

The Syosset third grade boys lacrosse team remained undefeated with a hard fought 11-8 win over Kings Park on Sunday.  Kings Park was an excellent team that matched the Braves goal for goal through three quarters.  However, Syosset kept fighting and broke the tie with an outstanding fourth quarter to pull out the victory.  The Braves were led by Jack Rooney with five goals and three assists, while Andrew Giovinco added three goals, two assists and numerous face-off wins. Christian Lyons scored three goals and had one assist, Ben Schloss played a strong attack and had two assists and Jack Monfort played a strong midfield and had three assists. Dylan Hein played goalie in the first half and did an excellent job; he also had numerous groundballs in the second half as a midfielder. Andrew Bonapace faced a lot of shots and made some great saves as the second half goalie. The defense was tested and really adjusted to shut down Kings Park. They were led by Matt Majoy, Joseph Cawley, James Galvin and Jacob Katz. Michael Anastasio, Nicholas Carchietta, Eric Haas, Matt Losquardo, Ethan Berch, Jason Yacavone, Drew Cohen and Troy Douglas all played well contributing to the win.  The coaches are very pleased with the improvement of all the players and indicated that every goal was assisted, which demonstrates how unselfish the boys play. It was a great win and the Braves hope to continue their fine play next week against Bellmore.

The Syosset fourth grade boys Red team won its third consecutive game of the year Sunday, topping Bayville 4-3. The boys once again started out hot, racing to a 4-0 lead behind scoring from their ace attackmen Dylan Gefter and Joseph Schindel, along with scores from middies Dominic Speranza (one goal, three face-off wins) and game MVP Griffen Burke, who had outstanding play all over the field to go with his score. Brandon Tabakin scooped up a team-high seven ground balls, Chris Daugherty had one assist and six ground balls and Eli Feder added four ground balls. They dominated the midfield lines along with great efforts from Curtis Torti, Max Verch and Brian Dillon. As the scoring cooled off in the second half, Syosset once again called on their shutdown defense to save the day. J.T. Roselle played another standout defensive game with six ground balls, numerous takeaways and three stops with change of possession. With help from his fellow defensemen, Syosset squashed Bayville's comeback bid with great efforts from Austin Maccarone (three ground balls), Jake Needelman (three ground balls) and excellent contributions from Matthew Luneberg, Max Verch and rookie Trevor Friedrich. 5th Grade Boys Lacrosse

Syosset's fifth grade boys played Harborfields for their third game of the season.  Despite having a winning record against Harborfields over the last two years, the boys had a tough time this past Sunday. The first half saw goals from Thomas Middendorf and Riley Frain, coming from feeds off middies Jack Lukacovic and Greg Newman. Matthew Farrell and David Moyett fought hard on transitional play and forced multiple turnovers. Matthew Korn, Griffin Halpern and Zack Tannenbaum were all over ground balls. The middies, Matt Benus, Matt Frank and Chris Moon, contributed significantly in their play.  Siddharth Menon, Ben Prevor, David Griffin and Dylan Schloss showed their abilities to maintain possessions on the attack. Second-half goals were produced by Moyett and Lukacovic with assists from Zack Tannenbaum.  Dylan Diaz, Michael Sherman and Justin Corallo played tough defense and contained the Harborfields offense as best they could with the help of Will Sanchez, Justin Andersen, Andrew Kravitz, Manny Hur, Jimmy Sheehy and Connor Ranges. Jack Moore and Michael Sherman split time in between the pipes, stopping many shots. Despite the hard work and determination of many key players, the horn went off, ending the game in a 9-5 loss.
