Syosset Youth Lacrosse Report

As usual, the Braves win in bunches.

1st/2nd Grade Boys Red
The Syosset 1st and 2nd grade boys Red lacrosse team continued their winning ways this past weekend. Visiting Jericho, they prevailed 7-5.  The team's record stands at 3-0-1. Goals were scored by AJ Alexander, Alex Davis and Michael Forte. Logan Farrell and Kent Sato had key assists to give the team an edge. Nicolas Accardo and Johnny Maccarone split time between the pipes, making many big saves. Josh Novick, Lucas Accardo, Victor Di Re, Sam Jaffee, Nicholas Anderesen and Maanuv Allu fought hard on ground balls and forced many turnovers.  This Sunday they host Levittown at 3 p.m.

3rd/4th Grade
Last Sunday, the Syosset 3rd/4th grade girls lacrosse team kept their undefeated record alive with another win against East Meadow.  The first few minutes of the game started off on a good note with Syosset taking the lead 2-0.  Despite some great saves from goalie Barri Levitt and outstanding defense from Jessica Levy, the East Meadow team took the lead by the end of the first half. Once the girls refocused their energy, Syosset gained control with a score of 7-6, with goals contributed by Sofia Afkham, Rebecca Korn, Nicole Rizzo and Taylyn Stadler.  The last 10 minutes of the game became a battle to keep East Meadow from scoring. Lauren Tranchina did a tremendous job in goal keeping  Syosset in the lead. Kelsey Miller, Lindsay Jacobsen, Amelia Crapperatta and Paulina Levitan helped spark the offense with their great effort. Sara Krotz scored the final goal with 41 seconds left, ending the game at 8-6. The girls showed amazing resilience and determination, with 21 shots on goal. There were great efforts from Rachel Kitagawa, Uma Alagappan and Christine Mui. Congratulations to the entire Syosset team for the most exciting game yet!

3rd Grade Boys
The 3rd grade boys lacrosse team improved their record to 3-1 with a 12-8 win over Floral Park last Sunday. The Braves came out from the opening whistle and played with a purpose. Jack Rooney led the Braves with five goals from his midfield position and added several assists. Christian Lyons played outstanding in the goal in the first half and scored two goals in the second half while playing midfield. Attackman Ben Schloss scooped up numerous ground balls and scored two goals. Midfielder Dylan Hein had an excellent all-around game, playing great defense, scooping up ground balls, clearing the ball and scoring a goal. Andrew Giovinco continued to his domination of the face-off X, winning all his face-offs and adding a goal. Nicky Carchietta scored a goal as a midfielder before playing a great goal in the second half.  The defense was led by James Galvin, Ryan Lebson, Daniel Shapiro, Eric Haas and Joseph Cawley. Michael Anastasio and Andrew Bonapace played great at the midfield. The attack was led by Ethan Berch, Nick Hrelja, Matt Losquadro, Charlie Zandieh, Troy Douglas and Jason Yacavone.

4th Grade Boys Red
The Syosset 4th grade boys Red lacrosse team won a hard-fought battle against Huntington this past Sunday, posting a 4-3 final. Tyler Parlo got the scoring started for Syosset with a bullet past Huntington's goalie. Unfortunately, goals were scarce from that point on as the defenses and goalies for both teams dominated. Tommy Markou played the whole game in goal, making one great save after another and the defense, led by stalwarts JT Roselle, Max Verch, Matthew Luneburg and Austin Maccarone, shut the Huntington offense down.  Syosset had the clear advantage in shots on goal, but were thwarted time and again by Huntington's goalie.  Sharp shooter and game MVP Dylan Gefter,  playing one of his best games this year, scored twice to keep Syosset ahead. The middies were outstanding, led by great efforts from "Ball Hound" and "Speedster" Brandon Tabakin who was a ground ball machine, Chris "The Dodger" Daugherty with two assists and face-off dominance, and JP "The Magician" Lannig, who added a very important goal and assist and dazzled with his stickwork. Jake Needleman, Eli Feder and Dominic Speranza played both ends of the field with their usual hustle and toughness to help riding and clearing the ball in a very close contest. Joseph Schindel, Curtis Torti and Brian Dillon all played well on attack, but were shut out by some great saves.  Thanks again to Eric "Stats" Needleman and Joe "Zoom" Lannig.

4th Grade Girls Lacrosse
The 4th grade girls team played a great game against a tough team from Manhasset last Sunday. Although they lost 8-4 they played hard and never gave up. The Braves' goals were scored by Sophie Levinson, Danielle Pitta, and two by Taylyn Stadler. The defensive team of Nicole Avidon, Rachel Farijam and Sophie Levinson played aggressive throughout the game. Jordan and Syndey Fells, Rebecca Mackey and Betsy Stephenson kept the pressure on at midfield and on attack. Goalies Amanda Alejo and Nicole Rizzo never got discouraged and had many terrific saves.

4th Grade Boys Black
The 4th grade boys Black lacrosse team traveled out to West Islip for a matchup with the powerhouse Lions and the game was a classic. The Braves started out slowly and quickly fell behind 2-0 before Tommy Rooney got his first goal. The Lions came roaring back and took a 4-1 lead into the second quarter. The lead should've been bigger, but first-half goalie Sean Anderson made some outstanding saves to keep the Braves close. Late in the second quarter, Danny Ochs had a great solo effort, slicing through the West Islip defense for a goal. The first half ended with 4-2 West Islip lead. After an inspiring halftime speech by coach Frank Belmonte the Braves came out for the second half ready to play.  Liam Kalbacher quickly scored a goal, followed by another from Rooney. After a West Islip penalty Rooney made them pay with his third goal. Kalbacher then scored two goals in a row, increasing the Syosset lead to 6-4 and giving Liam three goals for the day. Early in the fourth quarter defenseman Andrew Harris picked up a loose ball and ran through three West Islip defenders before feeding Rooney for a goal. Harris' effort was indicative of the Braves' resolve in the second half.  Rooney finished the Braves' scoring with his fourth goal of the game in the middle of the fourth quarter.  The Lions then went back on the attack but were turned away time and time again by the great defensive efforts of Stephen Conte, Shawn Connell, Brandon Brosnahan, Johhny Babino and Chris Belmonte. Second-half goalie Teddy Hanakis made a number of great save to keep the Lions at bay. Midfielders Thomas Bruefach, Sal Crescimanni, Dylan Sapienza and Danny Ochs all scooped numerous ground balls and played outstanding. The attack, led by Thomas Goldrick, Dean Marx and Jake Mullin, played well while dealing with a big and physical West Islip defense. With the 8-6 win the 4th grade Black team improved their record to four wins against only one defeat.

5th Grade Boys
The fifth grade boys squad traveled to Farmingdale last Sunday in an outing that started off well for the Braves. In the first period Jack Lukacovic started the scoring with an unassisted goal. In goal, Jack Moore made three stops and had strong help from his defense, especially Andrew Kravitz and Justin Carollo. The Braves' offense moved the ball well, providing attackers Zack Tannenbaum, Ben Prevor and Jared Goldberg a number of opportunities against a strong Dalers goalkeeper. At the end of the first quarter Farmingdale was ahead 2-1. The second quarter saw the Braves offense stifled by a strong Dalers defense that limited the Braves to three shots on goal. The Syosset squad countered with a strong defensive showing in the period, with clears from Justin Anderson, Kravitz, William Sanchez  and Dylan Diaz. At the end of the half the score was 3-1 in favor of the home team. The Braves' defense faltered in the third, giving up two scores. Jimmy Sheehy won a faceoff which provided Matthew Frank an unassisted goal to bring the score to 5-2 at the end of three periods. The Braves started the fourth period strong, winning face-offs and keeping the ball on the offensive side to create many scoring opportunities. A comeback was in store when Lukacovic scored, followed by another quick score from Matthew Farrell to cut the lead to one. The Dalers came back with two scores of their own late in the fourth to put the game away with a 7-4 final.

6th Grade Boys

Showing its offensive depth, the 6th grade Black team notched an impressive 8-2 win against a tough Garden City team last Sunday. Seven different players scored in the effort. Luke Walker had two goals, with Kyle Delmaestro, Max Lilian, Brendan Lyons, Michael Elardo, Mac O'Keefe and--most notably--Ryan Kelly in his second game back from an early-season injury, each having one. Kelly's goal shows that dedication pays off, having attended every practice since the season began even though he couldn't suit up until two weeks ago. The offensive depth shown by the team extended to unselfish play as well, with five of the eight goals scored off assists from Cameron Biegel, Mac O'Keefe, Kyle Delmaestro, Max Lillian and Brandon Feit. Lucas Cotler and James Goldrick had another solid day on midfield, covering ground balls and limiting Garden City's offense. Frankie Catania and Cole Burke rounded out the offensive effort on attack. EJ Aronson, Greg O'Brien and Jared Locke once again locked down the opposition's attack and helped set up the team's offense with excellent clears. The team's next game is Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Bethpage.
