The Syosset football team lost a heart-breaker to the Hicksville Comets Thursday evening at , 25-24.
Trickery was the name of the game for Hicksville Thursday. Syosset held a 17-7 lead in the third quarter, but after a Comets rushing touchdown made it 17-14, Hicksville would convert a surprise onsides kick, leading to a field goal to tie the game at 17. Video of the field goal shows a close call that could have gone either way.
Syosset running back Jordan Ziedman has stepped up big in the absence of Joe Morris, who is lost for the season with a leg injury. Ziedman would follow up the Hicksville field goal with his second rushing touchdown of the day, putting the Braves ahead 24-17 after the extra point.
Unfortunately, Hicksville would storm right back, scoring on a rushing touchdown with 4:10 remaining. This led to the Comets surprise two-point conversion, a fake kick and pass to the left side to make it 25-24. A late comeback attempt by Syosset was thwarted when Dylan Shangold's pass was picked off with 45 seconds left.
Syosset drops to 1-4 on the season, and hopes to get back on the right track on Oct. 15 when they for a 2 p.m. game.
