No. 54: Listen for the Sounds of Summer in Syosset

Performances geared to children as well as evening concerts, all to be held at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park

For this month's 100 Things to Do in Syosset we are bringing our folding beach chairs, blankets, and coolers and heading to to hear sounds fill the sizzling summer.

Here is a list of acts from the program:

Apropos to the passing of Robin Gibb, the world's number one tribute band to the Bee Gees, Staying Alive, are coming all the way from Canada on July 13 to sing and perform some of the greatest hits of the disco era.

Then on July 20 maestro, Dean Karahalis and the Concert Pops Orchestra of Long Island will be bringing you to Broadway with The Tony's, featuring songs from famous musicals.

August 1st--the last of the evening concerts at our park--Time Machine Band will be playing Motown, rock, disco, pop; a sampling of everything dance-worthy.

Reminder: for Music Under the Stars, shows begin at 8pm and there is no seating until after 4pm. All performances are held outdoors so call the hotline, 24 hours a day, for updated information at 516-767-7900 in the event a concert is cancelled due to inclement weather.

For other performances to enjoy during the day geared to both big and small kids:

One World presented by Chris Merwin--held on July 11 at 10:30am-- will delight children as he introduces them to musical instruments found all over the world. Audience members may even get to try out a few.

It's Poppin' Up Puppets by Janice Buckner will take place on July 18 at 1:30pm. She joyfully pairs music with puppets while instilling a message about kindness and respect for others.

On July 23, at 10:30am, talented storyteller, Lou Del Bianco will take the stage with his one man show,  Around the World, bringing his audience on an international journey through reading, theater, and music.

Finally, on July 31 at 1:30pm, Plaza Theatrical Productions will perform the classic tale of Cinderella.

All events are FREE so make your way to Syosset-Woodbury Community Park almost twice a week to find some fun summer entertainment.

On a side note, Outdoor Movie Night will be held downtown on August 1, at beginning at 8pm, co-sponsored by the and TOBAY. And Nassau County's Muttontown Preserve will be hosting a Summer Concert Series at starting on July 11.
