Reading Can Really Help Your Mind, Body and Soul

If you’re anything like me, reading can be a looked at as a journey that transports you to another place, another time and even another dimension. It allows you to place yourself in the midst of a storyline where  you’re observing or actually feeling what the characters are feeling. Much like watching a movie or listening to music, reading can help you to re-live experiences or it can help you to gain perspective on life.

Personally, I always have a list of books that I need to get through. As soon as I finish one, I’m on to the next one. However, for years on end, I’ve been asked the same thing. “How do you make time to read so much?” Yes- I’m a full time PhD student and a lot of my reading is academic, but honestly it doesn’t matter how busy you are- if you truly commit, you can always make time to read. Take 10 minutes out of your day. Whether it is right before you go to bed, while you’re on the treadmill or while you’re waiting for the train.

A few days ago, I read a wonderful article about a graduate student who read voraciously and she made an excellent point- read like a single, childless graduate student. When you have few externally imposed limits on your time, to read a lot, all you need is passion and perseverance- trust me.
