Blue Ribbon Run Sunday at Syosset-Woodbury Park

The 5th annual 5k Blue Ribbon Run/Walk for Prostate Cancer will take place on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park. The run is sponsored by Integrated Medical Foundation (www.IMFcares.org).

There will be refreshments and a health exhibit in conjunction with the event. Free prostate check-ups will be available for all men over the age of 40 who bring photo ID and have not been previously diagnosed with prostate cancer.

"I urge all men age 40 or older, or those with a family history, to talk to their health care provider about prostate cancer," said Rhonda Samuel, Executive Director of Integrated Medical Foundation.

For the third year, we are happy to announce that the Grand Marshal of the Blue Ribbon Run for Prostate Cancer® will be Curtis Sliwa, a prostate cancer survivor, CEO and Founder of the Guardian Angels, and Radio Show Host on AM 970 The Answer.” 

Integrated Medical Foundation is a 50l(c)(3) organization which promotes awareness and early detection of prostate cancer. Integrated Medical Foundation is committed to improving patient healthcare through education and outreach, offering free programs, free support services, and free prostate cancer screenings to the community.

1 out of every 6 American men will develop prostate cancer in his lifetime. This year, approximately 240,000 will be newly diagnosed, and about 30,000 will die from this disease. Regular screenings can lead to early detection of prostate cancer, decreasing the death rate by nearly 40% since screening began two decades ago.

Integrated Medical Foundation has reached hundreds of thousands of men across the region at events, seminars, through radio and print, and performed free screenings to hundreds of men in the last four years. 

Recent recommendations regarding PSA testing have left many men confused and unsure about how to manage their own healthcare when it comes to the serious issue of prostate cancer. It is crucial that we continue to provide public service education in a successful format to counter these new mixed messages. It is the goal of Integrated Medical Foundation to bring widespread attention and awareness to prostate cancer with the important message that Early Detection Saves Lives.
