The hours are counting down to this weekend's Syosset Chamber of Commerce Street Festival & Carnival, one of hamlet's marquee social events of the year.
The festival portion of the event will take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday along Jackson Avenue. The carnival will take place in the parking lot of the Syosset Long Island Rail Road station. It runs from 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Sunday.
The Chamber of Commerce has announced that Alive-N-Kickin' and East Coast, two of New York's premier party bands, will provide entertainment this weekend.

* Alive-N-Kickin' (1 p.m. Saturday) rattled Jackson Avenue at two previous street festivals with their smash 1970s hit "Tighter & Tighter," as well as an invigorating musical revue spanning the 1940s through today's Top 40.
* East Coast (1 p.m. Sunday), the band that spawned American Idol 2010 season finalist "Big Mike," has been energizing dance clubs and party crowds throughout the Tri-State area for 30 years.

In addition to great live entertainment, the event features vendor booths, great food, carnival rides and more. Volunteer opportunities are still available from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. both days. Call 364-7150 for more information.
