Robbins Lane Student Among 'Kids of Distinction'

Alyssa Innamorato was honored Tuesday night by Town of Oyster Bay.

Alyssa Innamorato, a fifth grader at Robbins Lane Elementary School, was among six winners of the 2010 "Kids of Distinction" honor by the Town of Oyster Bay. 

Innamorato and the other winners were honored Tuesday night at Town Hall. The winners were selected by Kids Helping Kids by Kids Way, Inc., which established a committee to select winners. Innamorato was awarded a $500 scholarship. 

Three years ago, Innamorato heard about Sunrise Day Camp in Oceanside, which serves children afflicted with cancer and their siblings. She began organizing an annual carnival in the cul de sac of of her neighborhood in Syosset to raise money for the camp.

The most recent carnival was held on May 22. To date the event has raised more than $15,000 for the camp.
