Daniel, can you share how you've arrived at that perspective?

Please, Danny boy send them a letter and tell them we don't need any real scientific researchRead More because you've got it all figured out. Are you invested with the apricot-pit-charlatans in Mexico by any chance?

These are remarkable machines and harken back to another time. I highly recommend you take yourRead More kids. And the people the museum are great about explaining the warbirds in context of their times. I got chills when the B-17 "Flying Fortress" rolled up on the tarmac. We'd love to have your photos; you can upload them directly to this gallery.

We should always remember the sacrifices made by the men who flew in them, and all our militaryRead More before and after. Just because one war was glorified or better accepted, doesn't diminish the courage and pain of those who fought, whenever they fought.

Failure to grasp the discount Gucci bag as soon as you find it, someone else will. If you are luckyRead More enough to find a discount Gucci bag, by all means buy it, cherish it and use it! http://www.mbtshoesukshoes.com/ http://www.burchshoes.com/ http://www.borsegucci-italia.com http://www.gucciuk-bags.com http://www.gucci-outlethandbags.com/ http://www.gucci-forsale.com/ http://www.louboutin-shoescheap.com/ http://www.christian-louboutinoutlets.com/ http://www.christian-louboutinoutlets.com/

"People who live in politically conservative, "red states" are more generous thanRead More those in liberal or "blue states.". Woah! I thought the conservatives were all about drinking the blood of the poor and kicking granny to the curb? Private sector donations? Can't have that- the government knows best where/how to help the poor and needy of society.

All the need to do is ask the people they already know - I know they are waiting

Thank you for posting this information. Just emailed Debra with some additional questions that IRead More have. Just perhaps my Brooklyn knowledge is what the county needs to teach them how to turn a profit in this business....

After going to so many sport events at public schools ....I noticed huge amounts of trash stuck inRead More fences and shrubs on the exterior of our public schools. Maybe we can focus on cleaning up our school grounds. Wait - doesn't our taxes pay for this already ?
Joe Dowd (Editor) March 28, 2012 at 11:29 pm
Richard: Thank you for the idea. School taxes (not town) do cover school clean-up. But more could beRead More done all over town. Thoughts?

The largest turn out to date...over 1,200 volunteers showed up and planted 230,000 stalks ofRead More American beach grass. Nice on the spot reporting and interviews in Newsday.com or the Sunday paper by Sarah Crichton and even has a photo. http://www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/kids-help-shore-up-dunes-at-tobay-beach-1.3621609

My buddy and I got there just before 10 and were surprised by so many already planting. We eachRead More put in seven bundles and since we surfcast there, are curious to see how the grass thrives. Very impressed with our fellow TOBAYers efforts and bemused that the town must have cleaned the beach prior, as it was pretty littered up back in early December. Kudos to the town for organizing still another well run event. Anyone want to trade a Medium for the Xtra Large I was stuck with ?

We're planning a follow-up story on this with more photos. This is a great annual event. If you haveRead More photos of your family involved in the dune planting, send them to us.

Who pays for all the property tax exemptions? The money has to come from somewhere to offset theRead More loss due to the exemption. It's the taxpayer who has no exemptions that carries the burden of higher taxes.
Grifhunter March 14, 2012 at 09:04 pm
Lets see, volunteer fireman, war vets, old folks, churches. So lets every year keep adding to theRead More list of exemptions and pretty soon the only people paying are Mr. Rennhack and myself. ELIMANATE ALL EXEMPTIONS. Lady liberty is blind and so should be the tax laws. Pandering for votes should be beneath this Town Board, seeing as handily they win elections.
John Rennhack March 14, 2012 at 09:25 pm
Who is looking out for the regular middle-class taxpayer? The ones that don't fall into the SpecialRead More Citizen Tax Status? There are exemptions proposed in Albany at least 3-4 times a session. Those keep adding up and adding up. See this link for a great take on the expemtions.. http://www.lohud.com/article/20080612/NEWS03/806120417/Reassessing-tax-relief In New York, the state Legislature mandates partial tax exemptions, but local villages, towns, school districts and counties face the impact. In some cases, local municipalities can vote to determine the extent of the discount they want to offer to their property owners. "This is sort of a self-inflicted wound," Orangetown Assessor Brian Kenney said. "Every year, new exemptions are proposed by the Legislature. The majority of people, who don't qualify for these exemptions, have to pay for them." "It has become a political giveaway because it doesn't impact their bottom line at all," Clarkstown Assessor Cathy Conklin said." Thomas Frey, executive secretary of the New York State Assessors' Association, said property taxes in general had reached a tipping point for many people, and that tax exemptions played a role." ""I don't think people understand that when you are giving an exemption to someone, it comes out of somebody else's pocket," Stony Point Assessor John O'Shaughnessy said." "One of the reasons property tax is so high is because there's a lot of people who don't pay any of it," Frey said.

This is absolutely wonderful. The astronomical spring begins Tuesday, March 20, 2012...what a greatRead More way to kick off the spring season. A day at the beach planting stalks of dune grass. If you keep track of the location of your plantings you can go back during the warm summer season and see how your plantings have done. The Town of Oyster Bay supplies its resident volunteers with the small hand shovels and the plants. We supply the labor. Wear appropriate attire for walking, kneeling and sitting on beach sand in the dunes. Bring your camera and take plenty of pictures...bring your family and you will undoubtedly see friends and neighbors there. The restroom facilites are open for our convenience. Volunteers can enjoy the free hot chocolate, chowder, and donuts donated by businesses operating within the Town of Oyster Bay border. See you at the beach!

This event drew more than 1,000 people to Tobay beach last year. And I was told by town officialsRead More (I'm not kidding) that the clam chowder is great and worth the effort alone. I'm hoping to be there, as well.
