Featured game of the week: Syosset Boys Lacrosse vs. Port Washington The boys lacrosse game had an added piece of drama as Port's head coach Tom Rooney is the former defensive coach for Syosset. “I know those kids real well,” said Rooney, about his former players. “I knew they were going to play hard. Syosset Baseball Beats Farmingdale, 10-0

Braves move to 6-5 in league play.

Syosset beat Farmingdale, 10-0 in baseball Thursday. Junior pitcher Jake Laine threw a complete-game shutout as Syosset raised its record to 6-5, matching Farmingdale's in league play.

Syosset Defeats Port in Boys Lacrosse

Braves capture double overtime thriller.

Syosset won a double-overtime thriller against Port Washington Tuesday, 10-9. The Braves are now second in the conference and with a 6-1 record. This game had personal implications for head coach Tom Rooney, who spent the last 14 years on the Syosset sidelines as the Braves’ defensive coordinator. The Vikings offense powered nine goals against Syosset goalie Ryan Feit (LaxPower ranks Feit the third best junior goalie in the country). Feit has committed to Johns Hopkins University, where he will play alongside Port Washington midfielder John Crawley. In Tuesday’s game, Feit had 10 saves and kept Crawley scoreless. Feit could not keep the Froccaro brothers quiet though. Freshman Joey Froccaro, a second year player on varsity, scored four …

"They're the best for a reason," said Syosset coach Diana Malley. "We really competed on a lot of different levels," she said. Farmingdale Girls Lacrosse Beats Syosset

19-4 victory extends undefeated streak.

Farmingdale's girls lacrosse beat Syosset, 19-4 Tuesday, pushing its record to 8-0. Amanda Turturro, Nadine Hadnagy and Kim Kolodny each had three goals for the Dalers. Daler Coach Shari Campbell said, "We have lofty goals. We need to be a little sharper mentally and emotionally." ESPNHS ranks the Dalers are ranked third in the country. Syosset coach Diana Malley said, "They're the best for a reason. "We really competed on a lot of different levels," she said. "We've been putting in a lot of extra work and we're ready to take the next step." Syosset is 8-4.

Massapequa hands top-seeded Syosset a 14-8 loss in battle for Nassau Conference I supremacy.

The Massapequa boys lacrosse team was not supposed to be this good after graduating 17 seniors from a year ago. But the Chiefs knocked off top-seeded Syosset, 14-8, Thursday for first place in Nassau Conference I. There's still one month remaining in the regular season and no doubt both these teams will reach the playoffs. In terms of measuring sticks, Massapequa is better than expected. Here is a look at the game in photos.

Massapequa Boys Lacrosse Tops Syosset

Chiefs explode for five third-quarter goals to down top-seeded Syosset, 14-8.

There was determination in the faces and swagger in the collective step of the Massapequa boys lacrosse team. Clearly the Chiefs had something to prove Thursday on the road against preseason top seed Syosset. The Chiefs showcased relentlessness around the ball and skill finishing off possessions. The end result wasn’t even close.   Massapequa ran past the Braves, 14-8, Thursday in a Nassau Conference I showdown for first place. Senior midfield Dan Muller and sophomore attack Ian Kirby each poured in four goals for the Chiefs (7-1 overall, 4-0). “Everyone was putting us down, saying we were young,” Muller said. “We lost 17 seniors; we lost our whole attack. We just have something to prove. We’re here to win a Nassau County championship.” …

Titans Topple Chaminade Baseball 5-4 in Extras

Ryan Walsh had been wanting a bit of redemption Thursday morning. It had been weighing on the Chaminade rightfielder’s mind since the first inning against Holy Trinity – those two errors he had allowed in the first to firstbaseman Tyler Kapela and secondbaseman John Parenty – had been compounded in the second and fifth with a pair of strikeouts. A hot shot off the bat of centerfielder Christopher Merola was headed slightly off center in the midoutfield between Walsh and Bryan Colasacco. If he made it, it would mean two outs with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth. If not, at least two would score and it would probably be the game. Either a hero or a goat. Syosset Baseball Falls to MacArthur

Visiting MacArthur takes 10-1 non-league win over Braves.

MacArthur High School pounded Syosset Monday, 10-1 in a non-league baseball game. Newsday reported that Joe Chiaraomente struck out seven and allowed one run in five innings to defeat the Braves. Syosset junior pitcher Jake Laine took the loss. The Braves play their next game Wednesday at Plainview JFK.
