I am the editor for the Syosset Patch.
I am a 2010 graduate of Loyola University Maryland, where I realized my excessive observation of others made journalism the perfect major. After studying abroad in Stirling, Scotland, I caught the travel bug. Since then, I have been back to Scotland, traveled to Ireland, Spain, Denmark, and most recently, Italy, where I reported on events in the Le Marche region for Urbino Now (2010) magazine.
Until October 2011, I had worked with the Malverne-West Hempstead and New Hyde Park Patch sites, reporting on education, and writing neighbor profiles and features. I began editing the Syosset Patch site in October and have enjoyed getting to know the community ever since.
Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Local Hot-Button Issue
What do you think is the most important issue facing the community?
Residents in Syosset have shown sincere care and passion for . In terms of business, the plan to construct a mall on the old Cerro Wire property has drawn a lot of attention.

Hi Heather, I'm watching the 11 o'clock news on NBC and Sue Simmons just reported a story "as seen on Huntington Patch" about the dog who saved a Huntington family from a fire! "Dog Saves Former Fire Chief's Family" -- thought I'd let you know you got a shout out on NBC! :)
