Hometown: Garden City, NY Birthday: October 19 Twitter: @SyossetPatch Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SyossetPatch Bio: I am the Local Editor for Syosset Patch on Long Island. I was born just a few minutes down the road in Garden City and after graduating from GCHS, I attended Loyola College in Maryland, now Loyola University Maryland. There I realized my excessive observation of others made journalism the perfect major. After studying abroad in Stirling, Scotland, I caught the travel bug. Since then, I have been back to Scotland, traveled to Ireland, Spain, Denmark, and most recently, Italy, where I reported on events in the Le Marche region for Urbino Now magazine. Until October 2011, I had worked with the Malverne-West Hempstead and New Hyde Park Patch sites, reporting on education, sports and writing profiles and features. I began filling in as editor of the Syosset Patch site in October and officially became the Syosset LE in March 2012. Your Beliefs At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know. Politics  How would you describe your political beliefs? I have my own opinions like everyone else. However, I have always felt that when it comes to politics, journalists don't get paid to tell you what we think. Instead, we are there to present factual evidence from all angles and let the reader decide. I believe the best citizen is an educated one. Religion How religious would you consider yourself? I was baptized Catholic and raised an Episcopalian. Although I am not devout, I admire the modern social and political strides Episcopal leaders are making. Local Hot-Button Issue What do you think is the most important issue facing the community? Issues I have been approached with include schools and taxes, the Mall at Oyster Bay, rashes of wintertime burglaries, the Morrell Caterers/Woodbury Jewish Center debate, and the revival of the business district.
