SHS Debate Team Earns Place Among the Elite

Team named to prestigious National Forensic League's Société de 400.

Syosset High School’s renowned forensic speech and debate team has been named to the prestigious National Forensic League’s Société de 400, which is reserved for chapters that awarded 400 or more degrees in the previous year.

These chapters represent 0.5 percent of all chapters nationwide. The achievement demonstrates the district’s continued efforts to instill valuable life skills -- including research, communication, listening, writing and organization -- into all of its students.

The NFL is a national honor society for middle and high school speech and debate programs. According to the NFL, the society helps students become “effective communicators, ethical individuals, critical thinkers and leaders in a democratic society.”  Established in 1925, its membership includes 3,000 schools throughout the country.
