Student Sandy Film Premieres Tuesday

Students who documented devastation in Long Beach after Sandy will premiere their film Tuesday in Syosset.

"The Spirit of Long Beach," a documentary by Nassau BOCES students at Long Island High School for the Arts, premieres at the Syosset school Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Taking to the streets of Long Beach, students captured the devastation and recovery of the south shore city in the months following Hurricane Sandy. Listening to heartbreaking stories of loss and inspiring tales of togetherness, students brought both the sadness and resilience of the hurricane recovery to the screen.

The premiere is free to attend and is open to the public. Contributions to Long Island Cares Inc. Emergency Relief and Recovery Services program will be accepted at the door.

Students are the product of the prestigious viual and performing art departments of LIHSA and were mentored by artist and film critic Grace Blake. Blake will join the student filmmakers on stage for a question and answer session following the film.

Dance performances and artwork will also be on display at the premiere.
