Brooke Jackman Literacy Race Saturday

5K fundraiser set for Saturday near Syosset.

Runners, walkers, athletes, and more from across Long Island will join together to raise money for children in need at the Brooke Jackman Race for Literacy in Oyster Bay this weekend.

The event benefits the Brooke Jackman Foundation, which was set up in memory of a 23-year-old woman killed in the World Trade Center attacks. The foundation helps fund programs set up to support child literacy and self-esteem.

The charity 5K Run/Walk takes place Saturday at 10:15 a.m. Participants will begin and end the race at Roosevelt Elementary School in the Brooke Jackman Reading Garden.

The 5K is held as a part of the 10th Annual Health & Fitness Fair, presented by the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce and Sen. Carl Marcellino.

Those still wishing to register for the race can do so on Saturday. Participation is $25 and $10 for students under 18 years old.

All those participating will receive commemorative t-shirts and a water bottle.
