Syosset Then and Now Answer: Plane Spotting

Find out how this Syossetite defended the country during WWII from his front yard.

For the first time, None of our readers submitted answers for the question: How did this man fight the Axis Powers from his own front yard?

Bob Boslet, the man pictured here, was a plane spotter during World War II.  Boslet's responsibility was to scan the skies for enemy places flying in from the east. From any street or front yard in Syosset, Boslet could scan the sky and alert the proper authorities should any enemy planes pass overhead. The practice of plane spotting sometimes incorporated knowledge of plane types and insignias that would identify certain aircraft.

Were you or someone you know a plane spotter? Did you ever see someone in the act of place spotting? Give us your stories in the comments section below!
