Syosset Then and Now Answer: The First Son

Meet the mystery guest speaker at this 1944 Syosset eighth grade graduation ceremony.

Readers came very close to naming the mystery speaker at this 1944 Syosset eighth grade graduation ceremony. In fact, they just had to tack on two letters to be correct.

Patch user guessed Frankin Delano Roosevelt which is partially correct. They just forgot the "Jr."

The mystery speaker was then 29-year-old Frankin Delano Roosevelt, Jr., just under one year before the death of his father and the end of World War II.

This was one of many speeches given by FDR Jr. who in 1949 would become a United States House Representative of the 20th Congressional District of New York.

In one famous endorsement for John F. Kennedy Jr. for president in 1960, FDR Jr. blasted those who claimed Kennedy's religion would interfere with his ability to be Commander in Chief.
