A Syosset man is responsible for a college woman's death after striking and killing her on a South Carolina highway Friday morning, reported WMBF news Friday.

Police say the accident happened just after midnight Friday morning as Julian Delvasto, 19, of Syosset, was driving westbound on Highway 544 in Conway, North Carolina. At 12:18 a.m., as he drove past the Might As Well bar, he struck and killed 18-year-old Coastal Carolina University student Elizabeth Gorshack, said the report.

Delvasto allegedly left the accident scene but returned shortly after, said the report. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 3:28 a.m. Friday, according to the center's website.

Delvasto was charged with hit and run and reckless homicide on Friday.

A coronor found that Gorshack died from massive head trauma, said the report.

Delvasto and Gorshack were fellow freshmen at CCU. Delvasto majors in recreation and sport management, said the report.
