Man Accused of Using Power Saw in Burglary

Man tried to break into storage containers using power saw, cops say.

A Farmingdale man faces burglary charges after police say they witnessed him try to break open storage containers with a power saw.

Nassau County Police say they saw Kevin Deturris, 39 of Farmingdale, walking east on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset just after midnight on Monday, when he continued down the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway ramp. Welsbach Electric of Long Island had parked equipment trucks and storage containers where the expressway ends.

Officers arrested Deturris after saying they witnessed him take a power saw out of his backpack and attempt to break into one of the storage containers.

Deturris is charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. He will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
