All lanes of the LIE have reopened after police closed them to repair the roads Tuesday.
Nassau County Police closed all westbound lanes except the HOV lane on the Long Island Expressway between exits 43 and 44 at about 1:30 p.m. The closure caused major delays near Syosset.
According to police, metal debris, metal rebar from a pothole was sticking up in the road, making driving conditions hazardous.
Cops reported roads reopened just after 3 p.m. Tuesday after crews secured the area.
According to the Syosset Patch Commute traffic map, major delays reached back to exit 46 on the LIE as cars traveled through the single open lane.
