'Elvis,' Others Bring Music to Park This Summer

Town concert series survives budget woes.

At a time when government service cutbacks, park closures and fee increases have become all too common, the Town of Oyster Bay is giving the torn and tattered wallets of its residents a break. And Syosset-Woodbury Community Park is among the Town parks that will be hosting a summer full of free outdoor concerts and movies.

"The Town of Oyster Bay's 2010 'Music Under the Stars' summer concert series will once again offer fantastic free entertainment at local parks and beaches," says Town Supervisor John Venditto. "We are proud to be able to offer another great lineup for this year's concert series."

The concerts planned for Syosset-Woodbury Community Park are:

Additional concerts will be held in Oyster Bay, Hicksville, Plainview, Bethpage, Farmingdale and Massapequa.

"There's no need to travel further than your own community, as all performances are at locations familiar to our residents," notes Venditto. "In these tough economic times, residents in the Town of Oyster Bay can enjoy quality entertainment at their nearby parks and beaches, at no cost."

The Town counts on the support of corporate sponsors to help produce these shows. But for one of those sponsors, it's not about the dollars and cents.

"It is an honor to help provide cultural events that enhance the quality of life here on Long Island," says David Lerner, president of Syosset-based David Lerner Associates.

The Town will also host four nights of "Movies by Moonlight," featuring classic films and family-themed movies that will be hosted by Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay and Marjorie R. Post Community Park in Massapequa.

All "Music Under the Stars" concerts begin at 8 p.m.
