As Season Ends, Athletes Congratulated

Syosset commends winter varsity athletes.

Syosset School District congratulated winter athletes on finishing their season on a high note with impressive records and wins under their belts.

Syosset High School was named the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Winter 2012-13 Scholar/Athlete Team State Champion in wrestling. The team topped academic rankings as wrestlers averaged a 96.5 GPA.

Wrestling excelled on the mat as well, taking fourth place in the Nassau County and New York State championships. The team was undefeated in Conference 1A. Wrestler Dan Choi was honored as a New York State Champion and eighth grader Vito Arujau made All State.

The boys winter track team won the Nassau County Large Schools County Championship with a score of 64 points. Track team members Dale Mittleman, Simon Nwana, Nick Ouassil, JakeSchlessinger and Michael Wilkens were named All State athletes.

Varsity swimmer Nick Woska earned an All-American consideration and was awarded All-Long Island status in the 1-meter dive. Edan Zitelny grabbed the Long Island Swim Officials Sportsmanship Award and Section VIII Sportsmanship Award.

Varsity bowlers Mike Eskow and Brandon Schlossberg were named All-Conference athletes. Varsity bowler Ryan Graham was named All-State.
