Students get Halloween off after Sandy consumes neighborhood.

Syosset School District and Our Lady of Mercy Academy will be out of session again on Wednesday as conditions remain hazardous after Hurricane Sandy.

According to News 12, Syosset and OLMA will join most of Long Island schools in keeping their doors closed in the aftermath of the storm.

As of Tuesday, Long Island Power Authority reported nearly 8,000 Syosset and Woodbury residents were still without power. LIPA urged residents to report outages online or call either 800-490-0075 or 631-755-6900.

TOBAY officials reported winds topping 80 miles per hour recorded at their weather station in Syosset.
